Health & Social Services

GAR Foundation has always supported health and social service agencies that serve some of the most basic human needs of Summit County residents. The Foundation will continue to support this important work, dividing its health & social services grantmaking into two categories: "Community Care" grants (traditional charity care grants, with services targeted to low-income populations) and "Community Catalyst" grants (proactive and/or collaborative efforts intended to help build the capacity and effectiveness of multiple agencies or systems.) The majority of our health & social services grants will fall within the Community Care category.

GAR´s funding priorities in the Community Care category are:

  • Youth development programs that help at-risk young people define a better future for themselves
  • Organizations that provide basic needs to people in crisis
  • Organizations that provide health care to at-risk people
  • Programs that allow seniors to remain in their homes
  • Programs that address the immediate housing needs of low-income people.

Through our Community Catalyst grants, which will be shaped with nonprofit institutions working in the community and/or which may take the form of a planning grant, GAR will seek to proactively improve the capacity or functioning of multiple organizations across the health & social services system or to address a key community issue.
