GAR Foundation is thrilled to celebrate the 12th annual Student Art Show, highlighting the work of 27 undergraduate students from The School of Art at Kent State University and The University of Akron’s Myers School of Art, on display at the historic Andrew Jackson House.

The 2022 curated exhibit seeks to provide artists from both universities with an opportunity to experience the practice of applying to a selective exhibition and having their pieces displayed in a professional setting. The students’ vision in their work reflects the strength of their respective art programs and the vitality of emerging arts in the region.

Anderson Turner, the curator this year, is well known in the region as the Director of the School of Art Collection & Galleries for the Kent State University School of Art, and as the Art Critic for the Akron Beacon Journal since 2014. Turner received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of Arizona and went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts in ceramic art from Kent State University.

“The Andrew Jackson House is a special space,” Turner states. “This show helps highlight the gorgeous light and other unique qualities of the building. I hope the staff finds as much joy through the artwork on the walls and in their spaces as I found helping coordinate the show and hanging all the work.”

The exhibit showcases student artwork throughout the office of the Foundation staff and throughout the building. Small-group or single visitors are welcome to view the artwork on Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show will close on May 12, 2022.

“We’re honored to host such beautiful works that showcase the talent stemming from the Northeast Ohio student community,” states Kirstin Toth from GAR Foundation. “This partnership with the universities is one we’re incredibly proud to continue and we look forward to welcoming the community members to our offices to view and support the students of our community.”
